What Happens During Upper Body Lift Surgery?

Our surgeons perform this surgery while you are under general anesthesia. They carefully trim the excess skin and remove unwanted fat from your upper back, arms, and chest. If necessary, they will also raise your breasts and nipples to a more youthful position. Once they create shapely, flattering contours, they will close your incisions.

Can I Combine an Upper Body Lift With Other Procedures?

Many patients may choose to enhance their surgery with a skin tightening procedure or breast implants. If you are interested in a drainless tummy tuck, Brazilian butt lift, or lower body lift, Dr. Hagopian and Dr. Cripps typically stage these surgeries over two procedures.

How Long Is Upper Body Lift Recovery?

Our surgeons will ensure that you are fully prepared for your recovery. You can expect to take 2 to 3 weeks off work, and you will need to wait 4 to 6 weeks before they can start reintroducing more strenuous activities. Our surgeons use several ERAS (enhanced recovery after surgery) protocols to keep your recovery as smooth as possible, including lymphatic drainage massage for optimal healing.

What Do Upper Body Lift Scars Look Like?

During your surgery, Dr. Hagopian and Dr. Cripps take great care to keep the incision lines as thin and inconspicuous as possible. They understand that scarring can be a significant consideration for their patients. To help you achieve the best cosmetic outcomes possible, they offer multiple scar-therapy options, including steroid injections, microneedling, and Silagen® scar-refinement products.

Upper Body Lift FAQs

How to prepare for body lift surgery?

Preparing for an upper body lift typically involves stopping smoking well in advance of surgery, adjusting or pausing certain medications and supplements as directed, and arranging for help at home during your initial recovery. You should also be at a stable, healthy weight for at least 6 months beforehand. Our team will walk you through a personalized preparation checklist at your consultation.

How to sleep after an upper body lift?

Most patients find it most comfortable to sleep in a slightly reclined, elevated position during the initial weeks of recovery, with pillows supporting the arms to reduce tension on the incisions and minimize swelling. Sleeping flat on your stomach or on your side is generally not recommended until you’ve healed further, since either position can put pressure on the chest and back incisions. Our team will provide specific positioning guidance based on the extent of your procedure.

How long do upper body lift results last?

Results are long-lasting, particularly if you maintain a stable weight. That said, natural aging and future weight fluctuations may affect your results over time.
