PRP & Microneedling

Having naturally flawless skin is rare. Sun damage, acne scars, enlarged pores, and other imperfections are a fact of life for most of us. That’s why microneedling combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and Morpheus8 radiofrequency (RF) skin rejuvenation treatments have become so popular at our Atlanta, GA, plastic surgery practice. The minimally invasive, minimal-downtime procedure can be performed on all skin types and produces results our patients love.

What Is Microneedling?

The microneedling device we use includes fine needles that penetrate the skin to a precise depth, creating micro-channels and stimulating the skin’s wound-healing response. We can adjust the needles’ penetration depth based on your specific concerns. Before beginning the microneedling treatment, we apply a numbing cream to the treatment area to ensure you remain comfortable throughout the procedure.

What Is Microneedling With Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?

Even though a standalone microneedling treatment is very effective, combining it with PRP takes the procedure to another level. The platelet-rich plasma used during the treatment is produced using your own blood. Your appointment begins with drawing a small blood sample, which is then spun in a centrifuge to concentrate platelets. The PRP produced through this method is rich in growth factors and other proteins.

The process of creating the PRP takes about 15 minutes. The clinician massages the PRP into your skin during the microneedling treatment. The tiny channels created by microneedling help the skin efficiently absorb the PRP.

What Is Recovery Like After Microneedling With PRP?

Microneedling with PRP is considered a minimal-downtime treatment. You should expect to see some temporary side effects during the first few days after the procedure. Your skin will appear red, like you have a sunburn, during the first 24 to 48 hours. Your skin may be sensitive, and tiny scabs form, eventually sloughing off. You’ll notice improvements to the skin’s texture and tone after 1 treatment, but many people schedule one or two follow-up microneedling procedures to get optimal results.

It is important that you avoid sun exposure during your recovery. If you must be outside, protect your skin with a sun hat and high SPF.

We recommend Alastin Skin Nectar to promote optimal results and faster healing.

What Is Morpheus8 Skin Tightening?

At Hagopian Plastic Surgery, Morpheus8 is recommended as a targeted, minimally invasive treatment to improve skin quality and firmness—particularly for patients who need more than surface-level rejuvenation but are not ready for facial plastic surgery.

Morpheus8 combines microneedling with RF energy to enhance skin firmness, texture, and tone. Unlike traditional microneedling, it delivers RF energy through tiny needles into deeper layers of the skin, stimulating collagen production across multiple depths.

Who’s a Good Candidate for Morpheus8?

Dr. Hagopian often recommends Morpheus8 for patients who:

  • Want more noticeable skin tightening than microneedling alone can provide
  • Are experiencing mild to moderate skin laxity
  • Would like to improve both skin texture and firmness in a single treatment

Because it targets both the surface and deeper layers of the skin, Morpheus8 can be used on the face and body, including areas like the jawline, neck, and abdomen.

How Does Hagopian Plastic Surgery Customize Treatment?

Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, our aesthetic experts often incorporate microneedling with PRP and Morpheus8 into a broader treatment strategy tailored to your skin quality, degree of laxity, and overall goals.

In many cases, sequencing them with other nonsurgical skin tightening treatments yields more comprehensive, long-lasting results. Dr. Hagopian may also recommend microneedling with PRP and Morpheus8 as add-ons to enhance or maintain results following surgical procedures.
