How Is a Neck Lift Performed?

Dr. Hagopian begins your neck lift procedure by making well-concealed incisions under the chin and behind each ear. After gently lifting the skin of the neck, the next steps depend on your specific concerns. These may include:

Tightening the neck muscle: The platysma muscle separates as we age, resulting in 2 thin, vertical bands on either side of the neck. As these bands stretch against the skin, they contribute to the appearance of a turkey neck. Sewing the bands together in a corset style under the chin creates a smoother neck and a more defined jawline.

Removing excess skin and fat: As the skin loses elasticity, it sags and wrinkles. Excess fat can also contribute to the turkey wattle appearance that patients want to correct. If your primary concern is the appearance of a double chin and your skin retains most of its elasticity, Dr. Hagopian may recommend chin liposuction instead of a neck lift.

Who Is a Good Neck Lift Candidate?

Good candidates for neck lift surgery have realistic expectations about what the procedure can accomplish and are in good overall health. Patients who can benefit from a neck lift have fewer concerns in other areas of the face and want to restore youthful contours to their necks. Men who want a stronger jawline and chin but who don’t want a facelift are excellent neck lift candidates.

Not everyone concerned about loose neck skin needs surgery. A nonsurgical skin tightening procedure such as Ultherapy® can be effective for people with a lesser degree of skin laxity.

Can a Neck Lift Be Combined With Other Procedures?

A neck lift is often incorporated as part of facelift surgery for patients who want comprehensive facial rejuvenation. You may also get a neck lift along with other facial plastic surgery procedures, such as a brow lift or eyelid surgery. Or you can combine a neck lift with nonsurgical treatments designed to improve the skin’s texture and complexion, such as a chemical peel or microneedling.

How Much Does a Neck Lift Cost?

Starting at $7,500

The cost of neck lift surgery in Atlanta starts at $7,500. Your actual cost depends on the specific nature of your concerns, if you want to combine it with other procedures, and other factors. Dr. Hagopian customizes each neck lift procedure and provides a personalized pricing estimate as part of your consultation.

What Is Neck Lift Recovery Like?

You should expect to experience some tightness and soreness in the neck after the procedure, but this feeling gradually resolves as the neck muscles relax. Prescription medication can manage discomfort during your recovery. You’ll also notice some mild swelling and bruising. Most neck lift patients take at least a week off from work, although the amount of time you need depends on how fast you normally heal.

Taking brief walks periodically around the house as soon as possible encourages blood circulation and helps recovery. It’s important to follow Dr. Hagopian’s postoperative instructions closely to ensure your recovery goes as smoothly as possible.

What Do Neck Lift Scars Look Like?

Because Dr. Hagopian places incisions where they are naturally concealed, it’s difficult to notice the resulting scars once the incisions heal. Most scars tend to fade during the first year after surgery. We also offer multiple scar reduction therapies, including steroid injections and silicone gel strips from the Silagen® scar refinement system.
